Hill Country Ranch With Vineyard Listed For $5.2M
Kristi Crosby and Tom Hendrix with Scimitar Hill Vineyards (Texas Wine Lover)

When a wine room simply isn’t enough, swirl into the Texas wine country.

Scimitar Hill Vineyards, a 126-acre ranch in Camp Verde, offers not just a home, but an entire winemaking estate. The property, about an hour northwest of San Antonio, has hit the market at $5.2 million, the San Antonio Express-News reported. The price is over $41,000 per acre.

Fore Premier Properties has the listing, which is northwest of San Antonio and about 35 miles south of Fredericksburg. Kristi Crosby bought the property  in 2006, according to the Kerr Central Appraisal District. She and her husband Tom Hendrix started operating a winery there in about 2016.

Situated at an elevation of 1,900 feet, Scimitar Hill Vineyards offers panoramic views of the Texas Hill Country, with dark night skies and outdoor activities.

The centerpiece of the estate is a 4,200-square-foot home built in 2020. The residence features a loft bedroom, primary suite, a xeriscaped central courtyard, an office, a two-car garage, four full bathrooms and a climate-controlled wine room.

A guest house, which also serves as a tasting room, has a covered wrap-around porch, a wood-burning fireplace, a kitchen and a full bathroom.

The property offers opportunities for viticulture, recreational ranching and equestrian pursuits, with a production barn and winery, a workshop and horse barn

The property also includes a 5-acre lake, although it’s been affected by an ongoing drought. There’s also a plethora of wildlife, including scimitar-horned oryx, donkeys, whitetail deer and jackrabbits, the outlet said.

A number of Hill Country ranches have hit the market since last year, many of which carry eye-popping price tags. In November, the 1,560-acre River Oak Ranch, about 40 miles from Austin, was listed for $45 million, almost $29,000 per acre.

A 738-acre ranch in Spicewood, just west of Austin, went up for sale about a year ago, asking just shy of $17 million, about $23,000 per acre.
