The owner of a River Oaks mansion has chopped its asking price yet again after trying for $29 million last year.
Lori Krohn Sarofim, a stepdaughter of late Houston billionaire Fayez Sarofim, is now asking $24.8 million for her 15,000-square-foot home at 3630 Willowick Road, the Houston Business Journal reported. That’s about $1,650 per square foot.
The price for the 1.5-acre estate was already lowered once to $27 million. Rachel Solar of Martha Turner Sotheby’s International Realty has the listing.
Houston homes priced around $20 million or higher often require at least once price chop before landing a buyer. A $20 million home in River Oaks, for instance, sold earlier this year, after hitting the market at $34.5 million in 2021. Another $20 million listing in the neighborhood carried an initial ask of $27.5 million.
Sarofim’s mansion, built in 1994, has five bedrooms, seven full bathrooms and four partial bathrooms. It’s adorned with limestone floors, custom wood paneling, chevron-patterned parquetry, Baccarat chandeliers and antique fireplaces. The kitchen is outfitted with black enamel cabinets and a rotisserie oven.
The primary suite features a two-level closet with a spiral staircase and a private patio. The mansion also includes a third-floor gym with a wet bar and built-in speakers, staff or guest quarters above the three-car garage, an office, a game room and a garden room.
Outside there’s a koi pond, two vine-draped pergolas and a pool surrounded by crepe myrtles, weeping willows, oaks and magnolias. The home has been in Lori Sarofim’s family since 2006 and underwent a four-year remodel starting in 2014.
The Sarofim family has sold other notable properties, including a 1937 River Oaks home at 3425 Sleepy Hollow Court, which traded last year for at least $10 million. Another property at 2124 River Oaks Boulevard, primarily used for entertaining guests, was purchased and demolished by Houston Astros owner Jim Crane last year.
Despite the price reduction, 3630 Willowick remains one of Houston’s most expensive homes. Some of the listings with higher price tags include the $36 million home at 100 Carnarvon Drive and a nearly $50 million estate at 107 Timberwilde Lane.
