Home Depot to Open in Fast-Growing Town With Sales Tax Grant

Home Depot is expanding its retail presence in North Texas with a 105,000-square-foot location in Celina.

The store will be situated at the northwest corner of Ownsby Parkway and Preston Road, strategically located near a planned Costco and across from a future Lowe’s, the Dallas Business Journal reported.

The Celina City Council approved a $1.39 million sales tax grant for the retailer in December. Under the 10-year agreement, the company is required to open the store by July 2026 and hire at least 48 local employees by March 2027.

This location will support the city’s growing population, which surged 26.6 percent between July 2022 and July 2023, outpacing growth in all other U.S. cities, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Local leaders expect the store to generate significant tax revenue.

Celina is also set to get an H-E-B store. Last year, the San Antonio-based grocery chain purchased 21 acres at the northeast corner of Dallas North Tollway and Fred Smith Parkway for a future store.

Celina’s residential construction boom highlights the need for retail in the fast-growing North Texas suburb.

Recent housing developments in Celina include Centurion American’s Legacy Hills project, a 3,200-acres community slated to feature over 7,000 single-family homes, 4,100 multifamily units, 100 acres of commercial development and an 18-hole golf course.

Additionally, Cypress Equity Investments is developing a $30 million apartment complex with 700 units. To support the town’s growth, the Celina EDC recently acquired 32 acres near the historic downtown square, with plans for a development including hotels, retail and office.
