Grand Prairie has annexed 1,500 acres on its southern border to accommodate development of a master-planned community called Goodland.
Dallas-based Provident Realty Advisors is spearheading the 5,000-acre project, which will feature over 15,000 residential units along with shops, restaurants, schools and various public and recreational spaces, the Dallas Business Journal reported.
“This is a significant step in our city’s development,” Grand Prairie Mayor Ron Jensen said in a news release. “Unlike many of our neighboring cities, we have the unique advantage of new development opportunities to our south that will drive the growth and prosperity of our city. We recognized the opportunity and took decisive action.”
Goodland will be connected to Grand Prairie via Goodland Parkway, which is slated for completion in a year. The development site, near U.S. 287 and Mansfield, is a 40-minute drive to downtown Dallas and Fort Worth, and it’s near the growing populations in Ellis and Johnson counties.
The project will accommodate housing options ranging from townhomes to custom-built residences and gated active adult communities. Regional sports fields, event venues, churches and parks are also planned.
Recent development activity in the fast-growing suburb between Dallas and Fort Worth includes the construction of a 10-megawatt battery storage facility by San Francisco-based Prologis and a 300-unit multifamily complex by Novu Residential Group and Pivotal Residential.
