H-E-B’s North Texas retail push prompts industrial boost in Temple

H-E-B is expanding its logistics presence in Temple.

The San Antonio-based grocery chain  is steadily developing stores in North Texas. Its Temple hub, right off of Interstate 35 at 4750 Wendland Road, is growing by 285,000 square feet. H-E-B is spending an estimated $61 million on the expansion, or about $214 per square foot, according to plans filed with the state of Texas.

H-E-B has been working on a $200 million expansion of its logistics hub since 2020, including the development of a 325,000-square-foot frozen distribution center.

Northpoint Logistics is planning a two-building warehouse development in Pflugerville, near Austin. The 524,000-square-foot project, at 16728 Permian Lane, is expected to cost nearly $38 million, or about $72 per square foot. Construction is expected to start next summer and wrap up in the second quarter of 2025.

ZT Systems, a maker of custom servers, is developing a 436,000 manufacturing facility at 1809 Titan Drive in Georgetown, near Austin, for an estimated cost of $35 million, according to plans filed with the state. The cost works out to about $80 per square foot. The building is for “production, shipping, storage, testing and offices,” according to the filing.

California-based Provender Partners has purchased a 186,000-square-foot cold storage facility at 5225 Investment Drive in Dallas, the Dallas Morning News reported. It was purchased for $50 million, along with others in Florida and Missouri, from an undisclosed food service company, the outlet said. Titan Development plans to build a massive logistics complex in Leander, near Austin. The developer is seeking local approval for the 116-acre development, the Austin Business Journal reported. The project is on land that is valued for tax purposes for about $10 million. Details of the project haven’t been disclosed.
