Cisco to Pack Bay Area Offices Into San Jose’s Santana Row

Cisco Systems is reshuffling its Bay Area offices, closing five and consolidating workers at Santana Row in San Jose.

The locally based networking hardware giant will shutter four offices in north San Jose and its Splunk subsidiary headquarters in San Francisco, moving workers to a Splunk office at 3098 Olsen Drive in Santana Row, the San Jose Mercury News reported.

The moves are slated to begin Oct. 12.

Cisco will exit four office buildings at or near its 13.3-acre headquarters complex, an unidentified source told the newspaper. They include Cisco buildings eight, nine, 10 and 11 at 3750 Zanker Road, and 260, 300 and 350 East Tasman Road.

Cisco will move its non-engineering staff to the six-story, 95,100-square-foot building occupied by Splunk in Santana Row. Cisco bought the software analytics company in May for $28 billion.

Splunk will close its hub at 250 Brannan Street in San Francisco, an unidentified Cisco spokesperson told the Mercury News. The firm also will upgrade its offices in Santana Row, taking up the entire building.

“We are bringing our Cisco and Splunk teams in the Bay Area closer together to drive greater collaboration, improve cost efficiencies within our real estate portfolio, and create an environment where our people can thrive and drive innovative solutions for our customers and growth for Cisco,” the spokesperson said.

The landlord of the building in Santana Row was not disclosed. The property is owned by Frit San Jose Town & Country Village LLC, based in Maryland, according to a property database.

The 42-acre Santana Row district at Stevens Creek and South Winchester boulevards has upscale restaurants, shops, offices, homes, a hotel and open space.

The Cisco move follows its decision in August to lay off 7 percent of its global workforce, including 900 workers in the Bay Area.
