The Agency continues its growth spurt in Northern California, snagging a manager from Vanguard Properties for its Marin office and a top Compass sales team from the East Bay.

Eric McFarland will be the firm’s new managing Director for Marin County, the same title he recently held at Vanguard. He will also be affiliated with The Agency office in Palm Springs, continuing to work with clients in both markets.

McFarland began his real estate career with The Corcoran Group in New York in 2001. A decade later, he decided to return to California with his partner, Brad. He spent several years at Pacific Union before moving to Vanguard. He has sold more than $300 million in Marin real estate over about 175 transactions, according to an Agency press release.

McFarland declined to comment on why he left Vanguard, but said via email that the new partnership “combines the power of a stylish and widely recognized, international brand plus my 20+ years experience in residential real estate.”

Also joining the Mauricio Umansky-founded firm is the East Bay-based Tannahill Team. Most recently with Compass, the team is made up of husband and wife Kevin and Laura Tannahill, as well as their son Kyle.

He is also a former professional baseball player, who played for the Milwaukee Brewers and Texas Rangers in the late 1980s and early ’90s.

Laura Tannahill has been in real estate for more than 15 years, after careers in human resources and photography. As the daughter of immigrants, she is bilingual in English and Spanish.

They have three children and their son Kyle is a third-generation agent who joined the family business in 2016.

The team declined to comment on why they left Compass, but Kyle Tannahill said they were drawn to The Agency by the idea of “having a powerful company behind us and a massive global network but not leaving out the family feel of the boutique office.”

The L.A.-headquartered Agency has made a concerted effort to grow its ranks in California, Arizona and New York, according to Mike Schwartz, senior vice president and new market strategist for the brokerage. It added nearly 100 agents to its Northern California offices in 2023 and Schwartz said it would continue to seek out “like-minded agents who share our culture of collaboration as we continue our strategic growth across the region” in the year ahead.
