Academy award-winning actor Mahershala Ali is returning to the East Bay.

Ali, born in Oakland and raised in Hayward, bought the North Hills home for almost $1.2 million, above its $1 million asking price, Dirt.com reported. Ali and his wife, producer and actress Amatus Sami-Karim, also own homes in Los Angeles and Philadelphia.

Best known for his performances in “Moonlight” and “Green Book,” both of which earned him Oscars for Best Supporting Actor, Ali’s breakout role came when he was cast on Netflix’s “House of Cards.” Ali and his wife also won an Emmy for their work as executive producers on the HBO documentary “We are the Dream: The Kids of the Oakland Martin Luther King Jr. Oratorical Fest.”

The power couple’s new home was built in the early 1960s. It has four bedrooms and three bathrooms and 2,100 square feet of living space with hardwood and tile floors, skylights and wood-paneled ceilings. The home also has an attached two-car garage.
