Mayor London Breed, along with other San Francisco leaders, celebrated the grand opening of two new affordable housing developments on the Embarcadero.

The new apartments, which comprise a total of 178 residences, are located at 88 Broadway, San Francisco YIMBY reported. Broadway Cove is the name of the first development that includes 125 permanently affordable residential units. The second development, 735 Davis, features 53 affordable units for the area’s seniors.

“To address our city’s housing crisis, we need to be willing to take on projects like the ones we are celebrating today,” Mayor Breed said in a statement. “As we recover from this pandemic and fully reopen our economy, it is critical for San Franciscans to have the opportunity to live and thrive in the city they call home. I will continue to do all that I can to ensure that our residents, especially our families and seniors, have a safe and dignified place to live.”

The project was designed by Leddy Maytum Stacy and Cahill Contractors, with BRIDGE Housing and The John Stewart Company serving as the project’s developers.

The two buildings each rise six stories high. Broadway Cove includes studios, one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom units, which will be available to households with incomes that range between 30-120 percent of the area’s median income. The units at 735 Davis consist of studios and one-bedroom apartments.

More than 30 of the family units in Broadway Cove are supported by project-based Section 8 vouchers. Those homes will house the residents of the HOPE SF Potrero public housing site that accepted the opportunity to relocate. Additionally, 28 of the senior apartments at 735 Davis will be supported by city-sponsored subsidy programs.

Out of the 129 units that will be available through the affordable housing lottery, 51 homes will be available to applicants with the Neighborhood Resident Housing Preference.

In addition to the residential space in the buildings, the developments also include a collective 10,500 square feet of retail or commercial space for important neighborhood services such as a mixed-income childcare center operated by YMCA of San Francisco.
