The LeFrak Organization is planning its tallest Jersey City tower yet.
LeFrak plans to seek final site approval for a project at 20 Long Slip at next month’s city planning board meeting, Real Estate NJ reported. The development would be both the highest and northernmost building in the Newport district, which LeFrak master-planned over several decades across hundreds of acres of former industrial space.
The luxury apartment tower would be part of a three-building, 1,100-unit project south of the Hoboken border. The 529-unit building at 20 Long Slip would rise 47 stories and be designed by Arquitectonica with executive architect work from Hill West.
Amenities would include a wraparound terrace, a game room, a clubhouse, co-working space and a fitness center. The project would also have 2,400 square feet of retail space.
Construction would begin after LeFrak delivers the Bisby, a 387-unit project at 30 Park Lane North that topped out last summer.
LeFrak has transformed the Jersey City waterfront, building 5 million square feet of offices and more than 7,000 apartments there. The firm is also extending its reach to other parts of New Jersey and is also one of the largest apartment landlords in New York City.
It’s also at some stage of a leadership change as billionaire Richard LeFrak plans his retreat from day-to-day management of the company.
LeFrak is far from the only developer making waves in Jersey City, where multifamily construction has boomed in the past few years.
Last month, Tishman Speyer purchased the land beneath 50 and 55 Hudson Street from Goldman Sachs for an undisclosed price. Tishman started construction on 55 Hudson in December. The 58-story tower is slated to be completed in early 2027 with more than 1,000 rental units.
Tishman will then move on to 50 Hudson, a 48-story project expected to deliver more than 900 apartments.
