Chicago-based cannabis company Cresco Labs is moving ahead with plans to develop a large cultivation and distribution facility in Ulster County, according to the Albany Times-Union.
The publicly traded company wants to redevelop a former Schrade knife factory in Ellenville that shuttered 17 years ago. The company hasn’t finalized plans, but the facility is expected to be at least 360,000 square feet. Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan announced the project last week.
The development would include a new building for cultivation, as well as spaces for processing, packaging, distribution and offices.
Cresco Labs submitted an application to the New York State Department of Health for approval. The firm plans to submit an application for the project to the Wawarsing Planning Board within the next two months.
If built, the Cresco Labs property could be one of two cannabis production facilities in the Hudson Valley.
Officials in the Orange County village of Warwick have invited seven cannabis industry businesses to open at the defunct Mid-Orange Correctional Facility, and have awarded Chicago-based Green Thumb Industries around $30 million in tax incentives to open a cultivation and manufacturing plant at the site.
