Heatherwood Luxury Rentals wants to build 428 apartments across three buildings near the West Hempstead LIRR station.

The project is estimated to cost $170 million, Newsday reported.

The Commack-based developer requested the Town of Hempstead rezone two vacant properties at Hempstead Avenue and Broad Street for the project, according to the report.

The parcels total about nine acres.

The proposal calls for two three-story buildings and one four-story building. Units would be a mix of studios, one-, two-, and three-bedroom units with rents between $2,000 and $4,000. An attorney for the developer said the project would increase ridership and help revitalize the area.
