The proposals from developers include mixed-use retail and apartment projects, beautification projects, and pedestrian improvements, according to Newsday. The area eligible for revitalization totals 87 acres along Grand Avenue from Sunrise Highway to Merrick Road.

The state awarded Hempstead $10 million for the initiative through its annual downtown revitalization program, according to the report. The state will review the proposals next month to make recommendations to the town. Hempstead had solicited proposals from developers worth up to $15 million. [Newsday] — Dennis Lynch
