A 39-acre Syosset property that’s been vacant for decades might finally see some development, but there’s mixed feelings in the community about what could rise there, according to Newsday.
Local officials said last week that Amazon was planning to build a 200,000-square-foot warehouse at the Cerro Wire site, although the company has declined to comment on the claim. Most recently, town officials and community members fought off Simon Property Group’s plan to build a mall there in favor of a mixed-use development with townhouses, a park, offices and more.
Some favor a warehouse development because it would create less traffic and still bring in tax revenue, while others are disappointed that the community-focused mixed-use plan has seemingly been abandoned. [Newsday] — Dennis Lynch
