Jon Corzine may have left the governor’s mansion in New Jersey a decade ago, but a penthouse he once rented in Hoboken following his 2003 divorce has sold for a record sum in the city.

The $3.9 million sale of the condominium unit at 1500 Washington Street tops the $3.55 million that New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning got for selling his former Hoboken home in the same waterfront building for last year, the New York Post reported.

The outlet noted that Corzine used the apartment in Hoboken’s Hudson Tea Building as a “crash pad” following his split with his first wife, Joanne. Corzine, a former Goldman Sachs executive, was remarried in 2010 to Sharon Elghanayan, the ex-wife of prominent real estate developer K. Thomas Elghanayan.

Corzine’s former unit is a 2,820-square-foot penthouse that has three bedrooms, three bathrooms, 13-foot ceilings, loft-style windows, hardwood floors and a kitchen with a wine refrigerator, among other amenities. It was most recently listed for $4.35 million with Paul de Zagon of Berkshire Hathaway Hudson River Properties.

Financier Bill Hearon, a derivatives trader who “enjoys investing in real estate,” picked up the penthouse, according to the Post. Hearon had reportedly previously acquired two other units in the Hudson Tea Building, a former Lipton Tea factory converted into rentals during the 1990s that Toll Brothers City Living acquired in 2005

Toll Brothers subsequently turned the 12-story building into a 247-unit condo, which is part of the company’s larger 525-unit Hudson Tea development in Hoboken. [NYP] — Mario Marroquin
