  • Simmons purchased the 5,300-square-foot unit for $14 million in 2023.
  • The Olympia Dumbo building is facing challenges, including a lawsuit and slow sales.

Ben Simmons is no longer balling for the Brooklyn Nets, so it’s not much of a surprise that he’s ready to part ways with his place at one of the borough’s most notable developments.

The Australian basketball player listed his condominium at Fortis Property Group’s Olympia Dumbo for $17 million, the Wall Street Journal reported. He purchased his five-bedroom duplex on the 21st floor of 30 Front Street for roughly $14 million in 2023, while the property was still in development.

Simmons’ 5,300-square-foot unit includes a home theater, a pool table, a video game center, a wet bar and a display case. Simmons utilized space for a gym and an office. There’s also a shoe closet and a walk-in dressing room in the primary suite.

Additionally, the home has a 300-square-foot terrace, complete with views of the Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty.

M. Monica Novo of Douglas Elliman has the listing, which is only two miles from the Barclays Center, Simmons’ former primary workplace.

Simmons, a beleaguered star due to his injury issues and three-point shooting bugaboo, arrived to the Nets from the Philadelphia 76ers via trade in 2022, with fellow star James Harden going to Philadelphia in the deal. The two are now teammates with the LA Clippers after Simmons signed with Steve Ballmer’s team following a buyout of his Nets contract last month.

Previously, Simmons had a home in Los Angeles’ Hidden Hills area, a newly built mansion which he purchased in 2021 for $17.5 million. But he sold that property at auction for $12.1 million months ago, before his career took him back to the City of Angels.

The Brooklyn listing comes at a perilous time for Olympia Dumbo. Last week, an investor sued Fortis, alleging the developer lied about the value of assets at the property. The lawsuit claims Fortis misrepresented the prospective sale prices of a commercial garage and community center attached to the condo building and then used those false projections to line up investors.

The investor — an entity tied to the Hakimian Organization — is seeking $11 million in damages. Fortis denied the allegations in the lawsuit.

Things have not gone to plan at the sail-shaped tower, where only half of its 76 units have been sold; its penthouse is still on the market for $19.5 million.

The property also cycled through three sales teams at Douglas Elliman: the firm’s Eklund-Gomes Team is back in the lead alongside the Jessica Peters Team and Sotheby’s International’s Karen and Casey Heyman.
