Longtime Alexander Team Member Drops Official for Compass

A longtime member of the now-defunct Alexander Team has left Official, the brokerage co-founded by former top brokers Tal and Oren Alexander.

Jared Schwadron, who’s worked with the Alexander brothers since their run as top performers at Douglas Elliman, joined Compass earlier this month.

Schwadron is the latest broker to exit the firm as sexual assault allegations continued to mount against Tal, Oren and their brother, Alon, who works in his family’s private security business. The brothers have denied the allegations.

Oren and Tal last month vowed to maintain control of Official, which is backed by the white label firm Side, despite stepping down from their roles after The Real Deal first reported accusations against them in June.

More than a dozen brokers have since left the brokerage, including its entire California outpost and agents across New York and South Florida. The brokerage pulled out of the lease for its Aspen office just months after setting up shop in the luxury ski town.

Two of the firm’s developer clients, Michael Stern’s JDS Development and Michael Shvo’s eponymous firm, also dropped them from two major projects in South Florida.

At Compass, Schwadron, who said he closed more than $100 million in sales last year, plans to build and head a new team. He’s bringing more than $65 million in listings, including a six-bedroom spread at The Plaza asking $28 million and a $7.5 million Nolita townhouse.

Schwadron teamed up with the Alexanders at Douglas Elliman, where Oren and Tal spent a decade building their careers. They left to launch Official in 2022 alongside co-founders Nicole Oge, Richard Jordan and Andrew Wachtfogel. Schwadron joined Official as a founding broker, where he worked on deals across New York, Miami and the Hamptons.

Schwadron is joining other New York brokers who left Official for Compass over the last few months, including John Hudak and Nicholas Lounsbury. A notable exception is Isaac Lustgarten, Oren’s partner on the Alexander Team in South Florida. Sources previously told TRD was planning to leave Official, but he’s still with the firm.

Official came under scrutiny earlier this summer after TRD reported two lawsuits accusing Oren and Alon of raping two women in New York more than a decade ago. Days later, another woman sued all three brothers, alleging Tal and Alon raped her while Oren watched in 2012. Oren is also facing a fourth lawsuit alleging he raped an actress and comedian in 2015.

Since then, more than a dozen women have come forward with accounts detailed in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Business Insider.

Tal and Oren initially announced they would step back from their roles at Official, but by July, sources told TRD that they were pushing for a plan to rejoin the firm if or when their names were cleared. According to people familiar with the matter, the brothers threatened legal action if their other co-founder decided to vote them out of the company, so Oge, Jordan and Wachtfogel left the firm instead.

James Cinque, an attorney for the brothers, told Business Insider that Tal and Oren never agreed to leave the firm.
