Usually, early spring in the Hamptons is a time for local business people — especially brokers — to gear up for the summer season. But when New York City went into lockdown in mid-March, many wealthy city-dwellers began shelling out for houses on the East End. A flood of new renters has descended on the towns that line the furthest reaches of Long Island, driving prices up and leading to talk of blank checks and bidding wars.

Earlier in March, the median home price had been down just over 10 percent as what had been a tough quarter for the South Fork real estate market wound down. Now, with the high season arriving early and apparently here to stay, hear about the fast-changing Hamptons market from the experts.
