Tonight’s TRD Talk: Facing a construction crisis

Building industry experts explain challenges of constructing during coronavirus on tonight's episode

Tonight at 5 p.m., join The Real Deal senior reporter Kathryn Brenzel as she leads a conversation with top building industry officials to discuss construction during coronavirus.

According to recent TRD Insights analysis, more than half of construction companies are experiencing delays. Although supply chain disruptions were the first virus-related obstacle for the industry, in subsequent weeks construction moratoriums and social distancing have led to difficulty in building just about anything.

Some sites have been allowed to continue as essential or emergency projects in New York, and shutdowns have happened unevenly across the country. In Massachusetts, where work is still happening, there have been protests by workers fearing for their safety. In Miami, two major hotel projects were shut down for failing to comply with social distancing.

On tonight’s talk, Plaza Construction president Brad Meltzer, New York Building Congress CEO Carlo Scissura and Building Trades Employers Association CEO Louis Coletti will explain how the pandemic is putting a dent in the industry, what challenges they are facing, and what solutions might bring builders through to the other side.
