Brookfield Properties has brought in a high-profile tenant for a little-known Downtown Brooklyn office property, which it picked up in 2018 as part of the Forest City acquisition.

Multinational utility company National Grid has signed an 87,000-square-foot lease on the 11th and 12th floors at Two Hanson Place near Barclays Center, the New York Post reported.

Brookfield owns the building’s 400,000-square-foot office condominium, while Madison International Realty owns the Atlantic Terminal shopping mall underneath.

The London-headquartered electricity and gas provider plans to move into the new offices by year’s end, while also keeping its space at One MetroTech Center.

Asking rents at the building are around $60 per square foot. Much of the remaining office space is occupied by HSBC and Bank of New York. Brookfield reportedly sees the National Grid deal as a good opportunity to “introduce” the property to the market. [NYP] — Kevin Sun
