A new leafy, greenery draped skyscraper could stand just 900 feet from the Empire State Building if Vornado Realty Trust eventually moves forward with a plan to tear down Hotel Pennsylvania.
New renderings for a 2.8 million square foot tower at 15 Penn Plaza were revealed during a recent investor presentation, that show multi-level balconies filled with plants and trees, the New York Post reported. It is unclear who is behind the latest design or when it was created, though the images resemble L&L Holding’s 425 Park Avenue.
The site on Sixth Avenue has undergone multiple design iterations since Vornado won city approval for a 1,216-foot-tall office building to replace the Hotel Pennsylvania in 2007. A previous design for the tower was done by Pelli Clarke Pelli, that showed a 68-story tower in place of the current hotel.

Vornado was close to signing Merrill Lynch as a tenant, but the deal fell apart. Last year, Financial heavyweights Morgan Stanley and Deutsche Bank were in talks to move into the new site.
