Chinese developer and school operator Yihai Group plans to build a 506-unit hotel and residential building in Flushing, a permit application filed Tuesday with the city’s Department of Buildings shows.
The application indicates the developer wants to bring a 19-story 200,000-square-foot project to Flushing’s downtown, with 360 hotel rooms on floors two through seven and 146 residential units on the floors above. Retail is also planned for the property, according to the plans.
Architect Raymond Chan is designing. Junda Chen, who signed the permit application for Yihai, did not return a request for comment. A page on the Yihai Group website refers to the project as “Yihai Garden” which it claims “will be the most striking complex building” in Flushing when complete.
Property records show Yihai acquired 133-25 37th Avenue in 2013, paying $28.9 million.
A representative for the Faith Bible Association, tenant of the building that currently stands at the address, told The Real Deal it plans to relocate in the next few months, making way for the coming construction.
On its company website, Yihai claims to have developed more than 86 million square feet of property and founded 12 educational institutions since 1989. Apart from developing large-scale projects in Beijing, Shanghai and other Chinese citites, Yihai is also active in Europe, where in 2016 it invested in building a Chinese medicine facility in the Czech Republic.
