Acclaimed chef Andrew Carmellini is bringing a new restaurant to the South Street Seaport, joining several other top chefs at Howard Hughes Corporation’s Pier 17 development.

Carmellini’s NoHo Hospitality Group has signed a lease for an 11,000-square-foot restaurant at Pier 17, which should be ready to open next year, according to the New York Post. It will be on the first floor and mezzanine of the pier.

Carmellini’s other restaurants include Westlight and Leuca in Brooklyn, along with the Dutch, Locanda Verde and Lafayette in Manhattan.

Pier 17 is at the center of the $731 million redevelopment project that the Howard Hughes Corporation is undertaking at the seaport. ESPN will launch a new studio at the pier in April, and a rooftop restaurant will open there over the summer. A new Momofuku location will open later in 2018 at the pier, as will Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s newest restaurant.

Some residents have already voiced concerns about the project, particularly the 4,000-seat concert venue on the roof.

HHC’s redevelopment project also includes renovating storefronts along Fulton and Front Streets, as well as renovating the Fulton Market building. [NYP]Eddie Small
