Congratulations, John Catsimatidis: you have the largest private company in New York with a real estate business.
Crain’s has come out with its list of New York’s top 150 privately held companies based on revenue from 2016, and although media companies dominate the top of the rankings — Hearst is number one, followed by Bloomberg LP at number two and Horizion Media at number three — real estate and construction firms are well represented.
Catsimatidis’ Red Apple Group, which generates a large percentage of its revenue from oil production but also has real estate heft, nabbed the top spot in the real estate world, coming in at number five. Other heavy hitters included contractor Structuretone at number nine, the Hunter Roberts Construction Group at number 22, Scott Rechler’s RXR Realty at number 30 and the Trump Organization at number 40.
WeWork also made this year’s list, coming in at number 54, and companies further down the list included Triton Construction (74) and Monadnock Construction (85). Jack Resnick & Sons checked in at number 95, Adams & Co. Real Estate at 106, Henegan Construction at 108, Kaufman Organization at 111, Navillus at 112, Thornton Tomasetti at 113, and Perkins Eastman at 119.
The Red Apple Group secured $90 million to refinance its Fort Greene rental building at 180 Myrtle Avenue over the summer, and Catsimatidis was ranked 248th on the Forbes 400 this year, with an estimated net worth of $3.1 billion. [Crain’s] – Eddie Small
