A Brooklyn landlord could pay up to $116,200 in fines for illegally packing dozens of Airbnb guests into her townhouse at 381 Nostrand Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
Landlord Pearl Chan ignored a city citation from September for running an illegal Airbnb hostel out of her townhouse, and officials have since put a partial vacate notice on the property, city officials told DNAinfo.
Investigators found more than two dozen guests crammed into Chan’s three-story townhouse during their initial Sept. 7 inspection, and in a second inspection on Oct. 3, they found a group of 11 Indian tourists. Chan has since been permanently banned from using Airbnb, a spokesperson for the tech company said.
The city has lately been cracking down on illegal hotels, and a Bushwick landlord was recently fined $11,000 for cramming 34 guests into nine rooms at 19 Fayette Street. A recent private investigation backed by the Hotel Association of New York found that illegal Airbnb listings were thriving in Williamsburg, Bushwick and Bed-Stuy. [DNAinfo] – Eddie Small
