An apartment building at 200 Amsterdam that would be the tallest tower on the Upper West Side received the greenlight from the Department of Buildings this week.
The 51-story, 112-unit building is being developed by SJP Properties and Mitsui Fudosan America, and has faced vehement opposition from the local community, Crain’s reported.
In May, Council member Helen Rosenthal and Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer gave their support to the Committee for Environmentally Sound Development, which had filed a challenge against the plans with the DOB.
Critics of the project claimed in was in breach of the building code. The DOB had shut down the site, but on Tuesday, the DOB said the companies had addressed all concerns, according to Crain’s. The developers will need to refile for permits.
