Toys “R” Us is returning to Times Square for the holiday season.

The toy giant plans to open a temporary, 35,000-square-foot store in August at the Knickerbocker Building at 1466 Broadway, Toys “R” Us executives announced.

“The Times Square holiday shop reunites our brand with an iconic New York destination which we are thrilled about,” company CEO Dave Brandon, wrote in a statement. “More importantly, the store offers customers a host of products tailored to the needs of city dwellers and visitors – all in interest of bringing play to kids and families around the world!”

The three-level store will have a dedicated play space and an animatronic dinosaur, albeit one that’s scaled down from its former store.

Invesco paid $196 million in 2012 to buy the majority stake in the retail at 1466 Broadway.

The toy store closed its massive, 110,000-square-foot Times Square flagship at 1514 Broadway in late 2015. FAO Schwarz and Toys “R” Us were in negotiations to open a co-branded store at the Brill Building, but the deal never came to pass. – Rich Bockmann
