Sofia Song, an early employee at StreetEasy who went on to take key research roles at Compass and Douglas Elliman, has joined urban data and technology startup Urbint as head of research.
Urbint, which was launched two years ago by Corey Capasso, uses artificial intelligence to clean up and aggregate urban datasets such as those from the Department of Buildings and Department of Finance websites and use them to predict future trends and events. Capasso serves as CEO while Bill Staniford, the former CEO of PropertyShark, is the company’s president.
Song is the latest real estate name to join the company. Adrian Mercado, former head of capital markets research at Cushman & Wakefield, is the company’s head of product.
Song said she’d been looking to leverage her real estate experience while moving into new areas — and Urbint provided opportunities for both.
“[Real estate] is one of our verticals but we are going after utilities, financial services, government, and businesses,” she said.
Song was laid off from her position as executive vice president of data and research at Elliman in November, amid cutbacks in the firm’s marketing department.
