The city is seeking $35 million from the federal government to cover the costs of security at Trump Tower.
Mayor Bill de Blasio sent a letter asking President Barack Obama to reimburse the New York Police Department for providing security at Trump Tower [TRDataCustom], Politico reported. The $35 million estimate would cover the costs incurred from Nov. 8 to January 20, 2017, working out to roughly $500,000 per day. De Blasio also said on Monday that he spoke to Steven Mnuchin, Trump’s expected Treasury Secretary-pick, about the costs faced by the police department.
Last week, City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito and Council member Dan Garodnick launched a petition pressing the federal government to foot the security costs.
