Con Edison cut gas service last week to nearly 700 units at the Chetrit Group and Stellar Management’s Yorkshire Towers rental building after discovering illegal gas lines there.

The electric company’s inspectors found the unauthorized pipes after residents of the Yorkville building, located at 305-315 East 86th Street, complained of smelling gas, DNAinfo reported.

Gas was shut down at 695 of the building’s 707 units.
