In the future, all of Andy Warhol’s former studios will be famous for 15 minutes. The two-story, 5,000-square-foot space that the pop artist rented for $150 a month is now asking $10 million.
Warhol rented the space at 159 East 87th Street from the city from 1962 to 1963. It was his first art studio outside of his home, DNAinfo reported. While using that studio, Warhol lived at 1342 Lexington Ave. between East 89th and East 90th streets.
Art dealer Wildenstein & Co. is using the red building, which was a former firehouse, as a storage space, according to city records, DNAinfo reported.
Cushman & Wakefield’s Thomas D. Gammino Jr., Brett Weisblum and Louis Marchetta have the listing.
In April 2015, Warhol’s lease for the building was auctioned off at Sotheby’s. His former townhouse at 1342 Lexington Ave. sold for $5.5 million in 2013.
