Brenda Powers has landed at Town Residential after having allegedly been ousted from Compass, a source told The Real Deal.
When contacted by TRD, Powers declined to comment on the move.
The former top-producing Sotheby’s International Realty veteran jumped to Compass last month in a move to expand her business across the country, she previously told TRD. Because of Sotheby’s licensing rules, she was unable to obtain a Florida broker’s license, which would have helped her service clients who were migrating south, she said.
The move meant the end of a longtime partnership between Powers and Elizabeth Sample, who started out as partners at the Corcoran Group in the early 1990s. The couple sold hundreds of millions of dollars worth of luxury real estate, including a handful of units at the Time Warner Center.
But Compass said at the end of March that it had “disassociated” itself with Powers after just a month. The reasons for her alleged dismissal were unclear. Powers later disputed Compass’ claims, saying she had left the company of her own accord.
Powers’ arrival is a likely coup for Town, which recently lost several big names such as Mary Anne Fusco and Brennan Zahler.
Town recently lured Prince Dockery, the former Elliman broker best known for representing sports figures such as Carmelo Anthony and Iman Shumpert.
Wendy Maitland, president of sales at Town, previously worked with Powers in the re-positioning of Canyon Ranch Living Miami Beach for Lehman Brothers.
“Brenda and I have worked hand-in-hand and have been friends for over 10 years,” she said. “I could not be more thrilled that her association with Town has come to fruition and we are working closely together once again on luxury sales and new development in New York and Miami.”
Powers will work out of the company’s office at 730 Fifth Avenue.
