Count Gov. Andrew Cuomo among the fans of celebrity chef, noted world traveler and Guy Fieri hater Anthony Bourdain.
RXR Realty and Young Woo & Associates’ Pier 57 development on the Hudson River — which will house Bourdain’s planned international food marketplace — received the stamp of approval from the governor’s office this week.
Bourdain recently signed a letter of intent with the developers to build a 155,000-square-foot marketplace on the pier’s main concourse and mezzanine, which he told the New York Times would resemble an “Asian night market” with around 100 different culinary vendors.
Cuomo said the Pier 57 project, dubbed “SuperPier,” would “bring jobs and new investment to the region while also creating a world-class venue for commerce and culture,” according to DNAinfo.
The project is slated to cover more than 480,000 square feet of office and retail space likely anchored by Google — which already has a sizable footprint in the area, including more than 300,000 square feet at Jamestown’s Chelsea Market.
RXR and Young Woo signed a 97-year ground lease with the Hudson River Park Trust for the project, with construction slated to start in the spring. The development will also feature a roughly 80,000-square-foot rooftop public park. [DNAinfo] – Rey Mashayekhi
