David and Jerry Wolkoff’s residential towers in Long Island City will bear the name of the graffiti mecca they’ll replace, 5Pointz. The developer filed for a state servicemark for the name on July 6 after failing to obtain a federal trademark.

“The bottom line is, we’re going to use the name 5Pointz on my buildings,” Jerry Wolkoff told DNAinfo.

G&M Realty plans to build a pair of luxury towers at the site, at 45-46 Davis Street in Long Island City. A warehouse at the location became a hub for the city’s graffiti artists, until the developers raised hackles by whitewashing the buildings’ walls overnight back in 2013.

The Walkoffs have repeatedly promised that their new development — a $400 million project with 1,000 units spread across two towers — will include studios and walls for artists to paint. [DNAinfo]Ariel Stulberg
