NYCHA seeks bids to build affordable housing on three sites

Agency would allow developers to build 500 units on unused land

The New York City Housing Authority made its first move to get private developers to build affordable housing on leased public land, putting out a request for proposals to develop three sites.

The sites are at the Ingersoll and Van Dyke developments in Brooklyn and Mill Brook in the Bronx. Developers could build 500 apartments that are 100 percent affordable on unused portions of the land including a grassy area and two parking lots, the New York Daily News reported.

All of the apartments would have to be affordable to families and seniors making 60 percent of the area median income, which is up to $46,000 for a family of three.

Later this summer, the agency plans to seek bids for developers to build 50/50 affordable developments on portions of the housing authority’s land in trendier areas, including the Lower East Side and parts of Brooklyn.
