Contemporary artist Jeff Koons, known for his creative and exorbitantly-priced depiction of everyday objects, has bought a property on West 52nd Street, according to property records filed with the city Thursday.

Koons paid $5.5 million for a vacant 25-foot-wide garage at 620 West 52nd Street, located between 11th Avenue and the West Side Highway. The site can hold about 12,500 square feet of commercial space, and comes with 10,000 square foot of development rights.

The property right next door — at 622 West 52nd Street — is also available for sale, according to the listing. Christoffer Brodhead and Cameron Mitchell of Massey Knakal Realty Services — which is now Cushman & Wakefield — had the listing. Koons paid $500,000 over the $5 million asking price.

Private owners Brent Schlossberg and Thomas O’Connell, who have owned the property since 2004, are the sellers.

A representative for Koons couldn’t immediately be reached Thursday afternoon. The artist is currently located at 601 West 29th Street in Chelsea.
