Durst Organization chair Douglas Durst may move to freeze $74 million of his brother and accused murderer Robert Durst’s fortune, after it was confirmed that Robert was the source of confidential family material leaked to “The Jinx” creator Andrew Jarecki.
Douglas settled a lawsuit Thursday with Jarecki, and may now move ahead with an attempt to freeze Robert’s funds. Robert received the money in a 2006 deal that required he cut ties with the family, the New York Post reported.
Douglas’ lawyer, Charles Moerdler, told the paper that his client is considering his options.
If Robert’s funds are frozen, the financial hit could have an impact on his ability to procure an ace defense team like the one that got him off using a self-defense strategy when he faced murder charges in Galveston, Texas in 2003.
Robert has been held in a New Orleans jail since his arrest in March on charges of drug and weapon possession by a felon, and is also facing a possible extradition to California to face charges for the murder of Susan Berman. He will be tried in New Orleans first. [NYP] — Tess Hofmann
