The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is moving ahead with plans to redevelop the former TWA terminal at the John F. Kennedy Airport as a hotel, after hotelier Andre Balazs backed out earlier this year.
The agency issued a request for proposals earlier this week from developers and investors to join the conversion project. The Related Companies, Marriott International and JetBlue are among those in talks with the Port Authority, sources told the Wall Street Journal. Bids are due by Oct. 14.
The landmark Trans World Airlines terminal, designed by Eero Saarinen, was open from 1962 through 2001. The site underwent a $20 million renovations and asbestos removal project in 2008.
