UPDATED: Mayor Bill de Blasio has appointed Rick Chandler, an assistant vice president for facilities at Hunter College, as the commissioner of the Department of Buildings.
A number of the mayor’s top choices for the position reportedly turned down the job.
Chandler will have his work cut out for him, with an estimated $33.4 billion in construction projects getting underway this year. That pick up in building could strain the resources at the DOB, which will have to process the flood of permits for the projects and ensure that the construction sites are safe.
The new commissioner will make $205,000 annually. [Crain’s] — Claire Moses
