Donald Trump’s public golf course in the Bronx is now projected to cost $236 million to complete, more than 10 times the original cost when construction began in 2000.
The cost includes $18.4 million for the 190-acre golf course itself, plus another $54.6 million for 30 acres of new adjacent parkland and a waterfront esplanade. These rising costs will make Ferry Point one of the most expensive golf courses ever built.
The Parks Department has been building Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point for 14 years at the foot of the Whitestone Bridge in the Bronx. The course is being financed by taxpayer dollars.
Parks Department officials dispute the estimates, claiming that although construction costs have escalated, the course itself will cost just $127 million.
City Hall selected Trump to operate the course, which is scheduled to open spring 2015, two years ago. [NYDN] —TRD
