Long Island real estate developer Gary Melius expressed his thanks to God and family in a video yesterday after surviving an apparent assassination attempt at his Oheka Castle estate.

The 69-year-old was released from North Shore University Hospital last week. He was shot in the face by a masked assailant outside his Huntington, N.Y., home. The bullet hit Melius in the forehead, but did not pierce his skull, police had said.

Police have arrested no suspects in the case. Melius said recovering in the hospital has been a break from his normal life.

“It was nice to get out, you know, it was like a little comfort zone for me,” Melius said in the video, as cited by the New York Daily News. “It was just I guess hiding. Everybody was taking such good care of me, the medical staff, the nurses.”

“I’m healing, getting better and looking forward to just starting over again,” Melius added. [NYDN]Mark Maurer
