Community Board 3 denied the plan to Name A Lower East Side Street corner after the rap group the Beastie Boys and banned any similar proposals through 2019.

LeRoy McCarthy, who amassed a 200-signature petition in recent weeks, wanted the corner at Ludlow and Rivington streets to be renamed Beastie Boys Square, notably in honor of the late Adam Yauch, who died of cancer in 2012. Alas, the board was not convinced.

McCarthy told DNAinfo, however, that this was because he was not able to provide the needed support materials.

“I was blindsided and not given the opportunity to present the full material [CB3] requested,” McCarthy told DNAinfo.

When asked what he thought of the plan, Israel Horovitz, the father of Beastie Boy Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz, said that “any spot that’s named for my kid is a good spot,” as previously reported. [DNAinfo]Mark Maurer
