The real estate broker wife of disgraced industry scion Robert Durst, whom he married shortly before being absolved of his neighbor’s murder, has listed her Fifth Avenue co-op.
Debrah Lee Charatan is asking $4.5 million for the apartment at 860 Fifth Avenue between East 67th and East 68th streets. Shirley Harnick of Douglas Elliman has the listing.
Durst, the son of late real estate mogul Seymour Durst and the older brother of developer Douglas Durst, has a life story straight out of a true crime television show. He confessed to killing his neighbor, a former merchant seaman, who lived across the hall from Durst in Galveston, Texas, in 2011.
Durst retreated to Texas, while posing as a woman, in 2000 after learning that Westchester County had reopened an investigation into his first wife, Kathleen’s, disappearance. Kathleen disappeared in 1982 and was never found.
Durst has long been estranged from his family, and was cut out of the family fortune in 2006 through a $65 million settlement.
Charatan, who runs her own eponymous real estate firm, married Durst in 2000.
While it’s Not Clear When She Purchased The Fifth Avenue pad or how much she paid, city records show that she has owned it since at least 2003. Durst’s name is not listed in mortgage or title documents, and it was not immediately clear whether he lived there with Charatan.
Harnick declined to comment while Charatan did not immediately respond to calls.
The two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment includes a porcelain sink, terrace and wood floors. The 153-unit co-op building, built in 1950, is complete with concierge service, a live-in manager, elevator attendant, storage unit, garage, bicycle room and wine cellar.
In recent years, Durst has been re-entering the real estate business. Last month, he purchased a portfolio of rental properties in Cobble Hill and Williamsburg, as previously reported. In 2011, Durst bought a townhouse at 218 Lenox Avenue for $1.75 million.
