A 210-room hotel for business travelers and tourists will be built near JFK Airport if the city signs off on it next week.

Plans for the hotel at 93-43 Sutphin Boulevard in Jamaica, Queens, across from the JFK AirTrain station, must get the okay from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. The MTA owns a third of the quarter-acre site. The authority’s real estate committee is set to vote Monday; the full board takes up the project Wednesday. The hotel will include a restaurant, a business center and three retail shops on the ground floor. It is expected to be a national brand, such as a Courtyard by Marriott or a Hilton Garden Inn.

City tourism officials told the New York Daily News that the hotel will appeal to the budget-conscious out-of-towners.

“There’s a perception that New York City is very expensive,” said Chris Heywood, a spokesperson for NYC & Co., the city’s tourism agency. But “it’s less expensive” to stay in Jamaica than Manhattan. [NYDN]Mark Maurer
