Pastis’ Meatpacking home to see retail conversion

A rendering of redevelopment
A rendering of redevelopment

Two low-rise Meatpacking District buildings, owned by William Gottlieb Real Estate, are set to undergo an extensive redevelopment, according to the New York Post. The buildings, one of which famously houses the French bistro Pastis, will soon boast 108,000 square feet of office and flagship retail space. William Gottlieb Real Estate is joining Aurora Capital Associates and architect Peter Wormser to modernize the 1847 Greek Revival-style row house and its neighboring 1870s-era property, both of which were once owned by John Jacob Astor and the Astor family into the 1940s.

The buildings, located at 9-11 Ninth Avenue and 406 West 13th Street, occupy an 18,000-square-foot plot with 250 feet of wraparound frontage. The buildings also include approximately 100,000 square feet of air rights. The renovation will use those rights to add another five or six floors to each building. The project also calls for a renovation of the buildings’ facades.

William Gottlieb Real Estate, headed by Irving Bender, owns roughly 100 buildings throughout Greenwich Village and the Meatpacking District managed by its affiliate William Gottlieb Management. [Post] — Christopher Cameron
