JetBlue airlines broke ground on its massive expansion of Terminal 5 at John F. Kennedy Airport today, Crain’s reported. The new, 150,000-square-foot arrivals hall will create six additional terminals — some converted, some newly-built — in the space that was previously TWA’s Terminal 6.

JetBlue CEO Dave Barger, Queens Borough President Helen Marshall and U.S. Representative Peter King, a nine-term Republican representing Long Island, were at the groundbreaking event.

The expansion is slated to be completed by 2015, The Real Deal has previously reported.

The new facility will add dedicated gate space, to allow JetBlue passengers to transfer from partner airlines; and a new customs and immigration facility, so passengers will no longer have to go through customs at Terminal 4. [Crain’s] — Guelda Voien
