Beer scion Daphne Guinness ordered to pay up for Stanhope damages

Beer heiress Daphne Guinness may want to consider re-listing her Stanhope Hotel apartment to afford a judgment just issued against her. The New York Post reported that a Manhattan judge ruled this week that Guinness must pay her downstairs neighbors for damages caused by her overflowing bathtub.

Pardus Capital President Karim Samii claimed Guinness flooded their apartment three different times because she left her bath running. A hearing will be set to determine the exact amount she owes. The judge rejected her neighbors’ plea for $1 million in damages for “emotional distress.”

“All I have ever wanted is to make amends and make this right,” Guinness told the Post. “I’ve always been happy to pay for their damage, and have already been doing so. I would never intentionally flood their apartment. I by no means want to be a bad neighbor.”

Guinness listed her 995 Fifth Avenue apartment for $15 million this January with Ron Teitelbaum properties, but the listing was taken down in late May. [Post] — Adam Fusfeld
