The Refinery hotel gets 1920s touch

Manhattan’s newest boutique hotel, the Refinery, which is set to open this fall, will give patrons a look at 1920s New York City, Hotel Chatter reported. The 197-room property located at 63 West 38th Street will have ’20s flair from its architecture to the rooms’ furnishings in homage to the building’s history as a hat-making factory (note: correction appended).

More specific features that add to the retro flair, according to Hotel Chatter, include distressed hardwood floors, concrete ceilings, bathrooms with inlaid mosaic stone floors and desks that look like sewing machines. In addition, the hotel will open with “loft-like” rooms and a 3,500-square-foot space on its rooftop. According to PropertyShark, the building measures 120,876 square feet.

As The Real Deal previously reported, the building located at 63 West 38th Street was an office building that Savanna acquired in 2009 and then sold for $29.5 million nine months later to an LLC named 63 West 38th Street Development, according to public records. Hotel Chatter did not mention the purchaser, who still appears to own the property.

As previously reported, old office buildings are finding new uses for hotels, such as the NoMad. [Hotel Chatter]
