Developer Daniel Brodsky is in talks to buy a third Chelsea building from the General Theological Seminary, the New York Observer reported. Having already acquired two buildings along West 20th Street between Ninth and 10th avenues, Brodsky is nearing the acquisition of the Desmond Tutu Center, a 50,000-square-foot facility with 60 hotel rooms and two conference rooms at 180 10th Avenue, between 20th and 21st streets.
In fact, public records show Brodsky has already obtained an easement and development rights at the site, though no deed transfer has been recorded.
The Observer said the building is part of at least three, adjacent neo-gothic properties built by the seminary and joined to create a larger facility. The landmarked Tutu Center played host to at least one Fashion Week-related event in the last few days, according to a spokesperson.
The building, believed to be worth $30 million, is being sold to help the seminary pay off devotes. It recently sold 445 West 20th Street to Brodsky for $18.5 million, and once sold 422 West 20th Street to him, where he is converting dormitories to condominiums. [NYO]
