Another New York City development project is coming back from the dead. According to DNAinfo, the developer of the long-stalled One Bennett Park condominium in Hudson Heights said he’s ready to restart construction at the 35-55 Overlook Terrace site. The planned, 23-story, 114-unit building, originally dubbed Fort Tryon Towers, was once slated to open in 2009 but has seen little movement in the past three years. Developer Ruddy Thompson of Thompson Development Group took out a total of $95 million in loans to fund the project, but defaulted in 2008, according to a foreclosure lawsuit filed last January. His lenders are still squabbling over the deal in court. Meanwhile, the Fort Tryon Jewish Center, which had been promised space in the new building in exchange for agreeing to allow Thompson to Build An Entrance On Fort Washington Avenue, has been displaced in the interim. It is currently sharing space with the Herbrew Tabernacle Congregation in Washington Heights. [DNAinfo]
